The medical curriculum at UNIMAS requires medical students to enroll in Elective 1 (MDP20505). This course runs throughout the second year in Phase 1 (pre-clinical phase), over a period of 9-8 months. The aim of the Elective 1 course is to give pre-clinical medical students the opportunity to participate and appreciate the processes involved in research. Supervisors and co-supervisors are reminded to be mindful of this being the students' first exposure to the research culture. To help in the successful completion of this course, there will also be research-related lectures and hands-on sessions. Students are expected to actively participate in all aspects of research activities upon identification of suitable supervisors. It is also hoped that the experience gained through this course will be useful when come time for the Phase 2 community-based project.
